FINA 6229 - Energy Risk Management Credits: 2
Throughout the world, the volatility of energy prices (oil, gas, and electric power) exceeds that of all other commodities. Many techniques and devices have been designed and applied to assess and manage risks associated with the energy business. This course reviews the current state-of-the-art in this field, including the application of techniques that pertain to the futures and forward markets, energy derivatives, diversification, price forecasting, and information acquisition. Also, introduces the application of real options analysis as an alternative to conventional discounted cash flow analysis of risky projects. Prerequisites: FINA 6205 and FINA 6228 , or currently enrolled in the M.S.F. program.
