Fall Term 2017

August 18, Friday: Last day to withdraw from the term (drop all classes) with full refund

August 21, Monday: First day of class

August 25, Friday: Last day to enroll, add a course or drop a course without tuition billing while remaining enrolled for the term

September 1, Friday: Last day to drop a course without academic record (tuition charges apply).  Last day to withdraw from the university without academic record (withdrawal refund schedule applies). See Bursar’s website for more information.

September 4, Monday: University holiday - Labor Day (no classes held)

September (date TBA), Makeup for September 2 (Sat.) and September 4 (Mon.) for all Dallas campus courses (required and elective)

September 23, Saturday: 60% point of the term that federal financial aid has been earned if a student officially withdraws from SMU; prior to this date a partial calculated return to federal programs will be required. 

October 6, Friday: Last day to drop module A courses with a grade of W (no refund)

October 7, Saturday: Last day of class 

October 9 - 14, Monday - Saturday: Final Exams 

Module B - Fall 2017

Note: Absences due to observance of religious holy days are addressed by the State of Texas in 1985 legislation. Allowance is made for completion of an assignment or examination within a reasonable period of time after the absence for this reason. Notification of intended absence is the responsibility of the student and must be given in writing to the instructor of each class the student is to miss no later than the 15th day after the first day of the module. A listing of religious holidays for use in requesting excused absences is available at www.smu.edu/registrar/academic_calendar.asp or from the Office of the Chaplain. The last day for a medical withdrawal is the last day of class instruction of the term the student is requesting to withdraw from. The University does not grant retroactive medical withdrawals.
