Note: Absences due to observance of religious holy days are addressed by the State of Texas in 1985 legislation. Allowance is made for completion of an assignment or examination within a reasonable period of time after the absence for this reason. Notification of intended absence is the responsibility of the student and must be given in writing to the instructor of each class the student is to miss no later than the 15th day after the first day of the module. A listing of religious holidays for use in requesting excused absences is available at www.smu.edu/registrar/academic_calendar.asp or from the Office of the Chaplain. The last day for a medical withdrawal is the last day of class instruction of the term the student is requesting to withdraw from. The University does not grant retroactive medical withdrawals.
