KNW 2199 - The Taos Experience: Everyday Life and Rituals Credits: 1
This course is designed to enhance the academic experience of enrolling in courses on the SMU-in-Taos campus through exploration of the everyday life and rituals in the area. Students have an opportunity to learn more about the rich history of the three cultures (Tiwa, Spanish, and Anglo) that have collectively shaped the Taos community. Students also read about and then explore historical and contemporary ways of living through planned excursions in and around Taos. The planned activities are led by two or more scholars from different disciplines who will guide discussions before, during, and after excursions. Prior to the activities, students read one or more texts introducing contrasting or complementary perspectives on the excursion site. These texts may come from anthropology, sociology, history, works of literature, and other disciplines.
