HDCN 6307 - Geriatric Counseling

Students study geriatric counseling in preparation for working with the elderly population, which is growing faster than any other age group. Focuses on helping individuals and families deal with issues related to the aging process such as loss of friends and family, physical impairments, worsening of overall health, and loss of independence and dignity. Includes diagnosis and treatment of complex issues such as mental illness, substance abuse, differentiating grief from depression, and normal cognitive changes from dementia.
