LAW 7218 - Race and Intellectual Property


Credits: 2

Explores the relationship between race and intellectual property case law, principles, and policy. This relational exploration includes analyzing constitutional law principles, statutory histories, and legal interpretations. Students analyze the impact of this intersection on socioeconomic status, wealth, and education as well as on intellectual property case law and policy. Applies a critical race theory lens to intellectual property. This course is reading intensive, and explores how and in what ways racial and other forms of inequality are built into intellectual property law, policy, and practice. Students are expected to complete the readings, lead one session, and write a research paper to be turned in and presented to the class. (*updated* 11/30/2018; effective Spring 2019)
