Explores the earliest responses to the human condition in the form of naturalism followed by the religious revolutions, which led to a contest of social and political ideas in the Warring States period (475-221 BCE). Culminates with the rise of empire in the form of the Qin and Han dynasties. (*updated* 10/14/2020; effective spring 2021)
