ASPH 3300 - Film Photography

Credits: 3

Explores the basics of analog film photography and considers how historical and contemporary artists use film photography in their practices. Students learn to use 35 mm analog cameras, to develop their own black-and-white film, and to make negative enlargements in the darkroom. As a studio-based course, a large portion of class time is spent in the darkroom using chemical processes; an in-class orientation for darkroom safety and best practices is required as part of the course. Course fees provide students with access to the darkroom and all the chemicals needed to make their work. Students are required to provide their own 35 mm cameras, film, and paper for the course. Prerequisite: ASPH 1300 .
