ARHS 1305 - Introduction to African Arts Credits: 3
Introduces students to the visual arts of the diverse continent of Africa, from the oldest human drawing to recent works in contemporary exhibitions. Over the course of the semester, students become familiar with the best-known examples of African arts and learn about some lesser known but equally impressive artistic traditions. Through the study of African art, students learn about history, politics, religion, performance, and cultural diversity in Africa. (*updated* 1/24/2023; effective spring 2023)
