WL 3334 - Twentieth Century German History through Film Credits: 3
Explores the aesthetic representation in film of the major historical events in Germany during the twentieth century. Selected critically acclaimed films depict the Wilhelmine era, the First World War, the Weimar Republic, National Socialism, and divided Germany. Students engage in formal analysis using the tools of film criticism to work through the social, political, and psychological issues in each film. Short readings in history and film criticism will support contextual understanding.
