ARHS 1375 - Art of the Selfie: Self-Portraiture from the Renaissance to the Present Credits: 3
Situates the digital self-portraits known as “selfies” within a longer history of self-portraiture stretching back to the Renaissance. Considers self-portraits in drawing, painting, sculpture, film and video, in addition to photographic self-portraits and the emergence of the twenty-first century “selfie.” Key themes include identity and performativity; race, gender and sexuality; and the impact of new technologies on representing the self.
