CEE 4380 - Civil and Environmental Engineering Design I Credits: 3
Students complete a term-long environmental or civil engineering project for an industrial or regulatory client and examine the nature of design problems, constraints, and analytical tools in an applied setting. The course employs an integrated design process that includes problem identification and formulation, project planning, the evaluation of alternatives, internal peer review and design iterations, the preparation of design drawings and specifications for bidding and procurement purposes, the interaction of design and construction professionals, and the implementation of the completed project. Incorporates a review of mathematics, chemistry, properties and strengths of materials, statics, dynamics, computers, electricity and magnetism, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, engineering economics, ethics, and business practices in preparation for the national Fundamentals of Engineering exam administered at the end of the course by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying. Prerequisites: Senior standing and CEE 3302 .
