LAW 8314 - Selected Topics in Family Law: Race and the Family Credits: 3
Examines how the legal and historical treatment of race has shaped family law doctrine and practice. The topics may vary by term and may include family formation; parenthood; family regulation; family dissolution; domestic and international adoption; assisted reproduction technology; and intersections with immigration law, criminal law, probate law, and children and the law. Course materials may include books, historical and legal scholarship, cases, briefs, news articles, videos, and films. Students are required to write a paper on a family law topic within the covered material. Prerequisite or corequisite: One of the following: LAW 6347 Family Law , LAW 6495 or LAW 8395 Trusts and Estates , LAW 7660 Child Advocacy Clinic , LAW 7643 Family Law Clinic , LAW 7642 Crimes Against Women Clinic .
