LST 6302 - Litigation and Discovery

Provides an overview of civil and criminal litigation, including pleadings, discovery, pretrial motions, trials, appeals, jurisdiction, venue, joinder, and statute of limitations. Explores key civil causes of action including intentional torts, negligence, breach of contract, fraud, interference with contract and economic advantage, breach of fiduciary duty, trade secret misappropriation, trade libel and false advertising, professional malpractice, and misuse of judicial process. Covers legal obligations of parties during discovery, and explains discovery methods and how each one is used. Expert reports, depositions, affidavits, and testifying are also covered. Restricted to students in the online master of legal studies degree plan, or departmental permission for students in other degree plans.
