LST 7311 - Collegiate and Professional Sports Law and Compliance Credits: 3
Examines key legal and policy issues in professional and collegiate sports. Students learn about the NCAA’s governance, enforcement processes, and guidelines for student athletes and athletic programs. In addition, the course covers the rules governing student athletes’ ability to profit from their name, image, and likeness (NIL) and key laws impacting NIL agreements. In addition, the course discusses the regulation of sports betting and its impact on college and professional sports. The course also covers various league structures and governance, as well as how labor, antitrust, franchise, and media law impact professional sports. Restricted to students in the online master of legal studies degree plan, or departmental permission for students in other degree plans.
