While Army ROTC courses are not offered on the SMU campus, students can participate in the Army ROTC program at the University of Texas at Dallas. Students can enroll in the ROTC courses through the same process as their other SMU courses. Students can get further information on the program and application procedures by contacting the UTD Department of Military Science at 972-883-6842. Students participating in the Army ROTC program are responsible for their travel and other physical arrangements to attend classes at UTD.
Army ROTC offers students the opportunity to become commissioned officers and serve in the U.S. Army, the Army National Guard, or the U.S. Army Reserve upon conferral of their degree and completion of the program’s requirements. Army ROTC scholarships are available and awarded on a competitive basis. Each scholarship pays for tuition and educational fees and provides a specified amount for textbooks, supplies, and equipment. Each scholarship also includes a subsistence allowance of up to $1,000 for each year the scholarship is in effect.
Students may enroll in the Army ROTC on-campus program as they enroll for other SMU courses. Army ROTC courses are listed under ROTC in the My.SMU schedule of classes. Students seeking to enroll in the ROTC program must obtain permission from Undergraduate Advising & Student Records at UGLyleAdvising@smu.edu or 214-768-3039.
