Telecommunications and Network Engineering, M.S.

Telecommunications provides corporate management with many new opportunities for enhancing efficiency and improving profits. Rapid advances in technology and changes in the regulatory climate have made major impacts in the telecommunications industry. A host of new products, services and applications are creating alternatives in carriers, equipment and networks. In recognition of the critical need for professional education in this field, the Lyle School of Engineering offers a program oriented toward the management of corporate communications and the engineering of telecommunication networks. This program is intended for students interested in employment with a corporate telecommunications management group, equipment vendor, service provider, regulatory agency, or research or consulting firm. This program is offered both on- and off-campus via remote delivery systems. Students should see the Off-campus Distance Education section for more information regarding off-campus delivery systems.

The department offers several specialization options under the M.S. (major in telecommunications and network engineering) program: engineering management, network design, software engineering and wireless communications.

Admission Requirements

In addition to meeting the Lyle School of Engineering admission requirements for an M.S. degree, applicants are required to satisfy these additional requirements:

  1. A B.S. in one of the sciences, mathematics or computer science or in one of the engineering disciplines.
  2. A bachelor’s degree in liberal arts or business with additional background in differential and integral calculus and physics.
  3. Computer programming experience preferred.
