Creative Computing, B.A.

The major requires a final capstone project, where students, working with a faculty adviser, develop an independent project in creative computing. Projects may include an art installation, performance, original software (tool, library or application) or a scholarly article. It is expected that students will present their projects in a public forum.

Admission Requirements

Successful completion of CRCP 1310 or CS 1341 with a grade of at least B- is required to declare the creative computing major.

Grade Requirements

The minimum passing grade for courses to meet major requirements is C-. Creative computing majors and minors must achieve a minimum 2.000 major or minor grade point average to complete the program.

SMU Degree Requirements

An SMU undergraduate degree requires a minimum of 120 credit hours and must include completion of the University’s Common Curriculum , one major and a combination of electives and/or other majors or minors. Completion of certain majors requires more than 120 hours to finish the degree. The credit hours within this curriculum are distributed as follows:

Elective Courses (15 Credit Hours)


Courses chosen from Digital Hybrid (ASIM prefix) and Creative Computing (CRCP prefix). Computer science majors may substitute up to two computer science courses, not including CS 1341  or CS 1342 .

Junior Milestone, Senior Capstone (6 Credit Hours)


Total for the Major Only: 36 Credit Hours
