Chemistry, M.S.

The M.S. degree in chemistry provides students with hands-on laboratory training and advanced chemistry coursework. Students perform independent research and publish a master’s thesis on their scientific discoveries. Knowledge and skills learned during this program will prepare students for industrial positions (laboratory, consulting, management), as well as for higher level studies in chemistry and related scientific disciplines.

Candidates for the M.S. degree in chemistry must complete 30 credit hours of graduate work, complete and defend a thesis before a committee of faculty and a general audience from the department, and satisfy all general requirements of the graduate faculty. Students complete 18 credit hours of coursework that consist of required core courses and elective courses, in addition to nine credit hours of research, and a three-credit hour thesis course.
