LAW 7213 - Reforming Education and Law Schools

Credits: 2

Focuses on three important books that critique current US education: Bryan Caplan, The Case Against Education; Brian Tamanaha, Failing Law Schools; and Benjamin Barton, Fixing Law Schools. These three books are complemented by additional materials from other writers that have differing perspectives. There is not a final examination. Students are required to read and discuss these books and other materials, and are asked to submit two fairly short (10-to-15 pages) papers, one focused on the general education issues raised by The Case Against Education, and the other focused on the legal education issues raised by Failing Law Schools and Fixing Law Schools. The class does not qualify as an Edited Writing course. (*updated* 10/27/2023; effective spring 2024)
