AD-PIANPER - Piano Performance

Students will demonstrate virtuoso-level technical control and expressive depth on their principal instrument or voice. This mastery will be evidenced through juried performances and public recitals in which students execute challenging repertoire with precision, dynamic nuance and stylistic authenticity. Assessment will use faculty-designed rubrics that provide quantifiable metrics for tone quality, intonation and phrasing, reflecting the rubric's requirement for clearly defined and measurable goals.

Students will perform four varied programs of solo and ensemble works from different periods and genres, displaying stylistic fluency and adaptability. Successful completion will be evaluated through faculty and guest adjudicator reviews of repertoire lists, audition performances and recitals, ensuring that the goal remains specific and relevant to the institution's artistic mission.

Present solo recitals and chamber concerts that exhibit confident stage presence, well-constructed programming and audience engagement. Evaluation will include faculty and peer feedback, audience responses and self-reflection, ensuring that the outcomes are measurable and aligned with the broader mission of preparing professional performing artists.

Students will complete a directed repertoire study culminating in the performance of a substantial work or set of works from a specific composer or genre—such as a complete solo sonata, concerto, unaccompanied suite, or a sequence of art songs. In consultation with faculty, the student will prepare, rehearse, and present this repertoire in a public performance and accompany it with brief program notes or a spoken introduction.
