Students will gain the ability to critically analyze artworks in depth, interpreting visual elements, symbolism, and techniques within their historical, cultural, and theoretical contexts.
Students will graduate with skills to conduct rigorous, original research using diverse primary and secondary sources, archives, and digital resources, allowing them to contribute new insights to the field of art history. Â Â Â
Students will graduate with working knowledge of at least one foreign language in preparation for future professional research.
In the Department of Art History, MA students will study and work in a professional environment that includes permanent tenured/tenure-track faculty of diverse ethnic/racial backgrounds. These professors will provide students with advisors and mentors who embody and nurture diversity through excellence in academic, museum, and arts professions.
