Students will demonstrate abstract and quantitative reasoning by determining the molecular geometry for molecules. Specifically, the students will first derive Lewis structures for molecules (electron dot diagrams) and then provide electron pair geometry as well as the molecular geometry, bond angles, resonance, and hybridization.
Students will apply the principles of chemistry, critical thinking and analytical reasoning to solve problems. The application will be on a question in physical chemistry that involves problem solving in phase changes.
Students will collect, analyze, test theories and make conclusions from data from a chemical experiment on combustion using modern and classical techniques. The SLO also addresses writing as the student will complete a written lab report.
From the given standard potentials, other quantities are to be deduced. Specifically, given the standard potential of one reaction, the student is asked to deduce the standard potential, the stand free energy and the equilibrium constant of a related reaction.
