Students will have the ability to solve problems in computer science. We further break it down into the following components: 1.A Analyze a complex computing problem 1.B Identify a solution by applying principles of computing and other relevant disciplines.
Students will develop design requirements from the problem statement that meet desired needs.
Student will have the ability to conduct computer science experiments and implement computer science program. We subdivide it into two sub-objectives: 3.A Implement and Evaluate Software Students will be able to implement and evaluate software (computer program) that satisfies design requirements within relevant, realistic constraints 3.B Verify a Solution Verify a computing-based solution Both tasks involve implementation and experimentation.Â
Students will effectively communicate concepts in computer science using written assignments 4.A. Content Content: includes the use of charts and graphs, as well as references, citations and supporting details where appropriate. 4.B Mechanics Mechanics: includes spelling and grammatical issues such as word selection and use, sentence structure, spelling, punctuation and capitalization.
Ph.D. students should produce outstanding research and an acceptable dissertation 4.A: Expert knowledge of the literature Student demonstrates expert knowledge of the literature in a sub area of computer science. 4.B: Explanation of the research Student demonstrates the ability to clearly explain and document his/her research. 4.C: Independent work Student demonstrates the ability to identify research directions independently. 4.D: Publishable results Student obtains results publishable in peer-reviewed journals or conferences.
