Dispute ResolutionDispute Resolution-MastersMADR - Master of Arts in Dispute Resolution

Conflict engagement and resolution requires foundational knowledge and a variety of skills to adapt to various conditions (e.g., mediation, negotiation, facilitation, engagement, law, ethics, executive coaching). Students receive graduate-level training in theory and hands-on activities to develop conflict management skills.

Conflict can arise in groups, between individuals, and in many different settings which requires emotional intelligence to navigate successful engagement and management. Students study the psychological context for themselves and all constituents and stakeholders involved for negotiation, personal and social influences on the parties in negotiation, and the impact of these conditions and behaviors on the outcome.

This course provides students with a fundamental understanding of research methods, allowing them to be discerning consumers of literature in the dispute resolution field and empowering them to judge for themselves the value, validity, and reliability of studies they read. Students learn sound research design, inference from data to conclusions, and the assumptions underlying various methods.

Students demonstrate knowledge of the theory, skills, and methodology involved in dispute resolution and conflict management. As part of the Capstone, students participate in an internship, a practicum, or an independent study, culminating in a capstone project or paper and a presentation to a group of their peers and faculty.
