Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of international politics.

Students will be able to demonstrate ability to write clearly about a global policy problem. A well-researched quality paper is required as a measurable outcome of INTL 4388. This has been the standard measurable for quite some time. In preparing this report, it occurred to me that the likelihood is high that our majors do intensive writing in other courses throughout their time in the major. As INTL is an interdisciplinary program, the overwhelming majority of our courses are offered via other stand-alone academic departments, most notably political science. As such, students taking courses that focus on global policy issues in other departments haven't been measured. This may be due to the fact that majors have options to take numerous electives, and there is no set requirement for them to take the same ones, though many do. That said, I will suggest to Professor Manzetti that we reach out to PLSC faculty who teach advanced level international and comparative politics classes to see if we can find ways to measure writing skills delivered in those courses. Since all majors without exception must complete the INTL 4388 capstone, it might be useful to have an idea of how the cohort of students taking that course have demonstrated their knowledge of such issues through writing in previous coursework.

Students will be able to demonstrate written communication skills necessary to articulate reasoned conclusions.
