Sociology BA majors will be able to understand the scientific method and understand the research process as it applies to social science research.

Applied Research or Professional Experience

At the completion of the Sociology Department's required two-course methods research sequence (SOCI 3311 and 3312), students will have developed the necessary repertoire of skills to go beyond the traditional college literature review-style paper and demonstrate the ability to collect data and write in the manner of a sociologist. This two-course sequence teaches students to establish the importance of a research question, develop a comprehensive literature review, operationalize appropriate independent and dependent variables, identify appropriate primary or secondary data sources and methods of collection, collect data, and analyze and present findings. The students will be evaluated using the rating of absent (1), beginning (2), developing (3), accomplished (4), and exemplary (5).
