By the end of the program, students will critically analyze primary scientific articles in molecular and cellular biology by presenting and discussing individual research papers in a journal club format. Students will demonstrate their ability to evaluate experimental design, interpret data, and assess the validity of conclusions at the Exemplary or Accomplished level on a faculty-assessed article presentation and critique.
By the end of the program, students will demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate departmental research seminars by identifying the background, significance, methods, results, and impact of the presented data and conclusions, and providing a written summary that appropriately addresses each of the criteria, as demonstrated by earning a score of Exemplary or Accomplished by a faculty evaluator.
By the end of the program, students will demonstrate an advanced understanding of cellular and molecular biology by achieving a minimum score of 80% on a comprehensive exam evaluating core biological principles.
By the end of the program, students will demonstrate scientific research skills by generating experimental data in a research laboratory at an Exemplary or Accomplished level as judged by a faculty evaluator.
